From Jennifer Monical
Today was a great and long day for the Kenya Team in Endana. We all split up and went to different churches. As expected, we all had very different but special experiences. In the afternoon we visited Segera Mission and orphanage where they have several new orphans who would have died of malnutrition had they not been rescued by the mission. They are all so precious, and are thriving now and getting educations and lots of love! After that, we continued our conference at the secondary school. The kids were attentive but tired today. We learned that Sundays are a big rest day for them. Here's their weekly schedule, pay attention teenagers: Monday-Friday, wake up at 4 AM, do chores and study. Start class at 7AM. Have class until 4 PM. Do more studies, sport, and chores, dinner. Showers are in a concrete floor, metal roof and wall non-climate controlled building with a jug of cold water, toilet is an outhouse, no sinks. Bedtime 9:30 PM. Sat/Sun: wake up at 6 AM, study, chores, church on Sunday morning. They are a hard working bunch of teenagers, but they appreciate getting an education more than anything else, and they LOVE God. Every time I come, I am amazed once again at the faith and commitment these people have to make a better life for themselves. Above all else, they value their relationship with God and their relationships with each other. They encourage and amaze me.
